Charmaine graduated from Multimedia University with an LLB (Hons) Degree in 2018. She commenced her pupillage in Messrs Zairina, Loh & Wong. On the 5th of July 2019, she was called to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor and was retained in Messrs Zairina, Loh & Wong as Legal Associate. She later commenced her Master of Commercial Law studies in University of Malaya in 2020. Upon completion of her studies, she joined Gary Lee & Partners as Legal Associate in 2021.
She was primarily involved in civil and banking litigation. Her areas of practice include foreclosure proceedings, bankruptcy proceedings, auction cases and land related matters. She also specializes in conveyancing matters and had assisted in development projects for Ayra Residences, Casira 1 Residences and Lot 15 Residences by Sime Darby Group.
Apart from that, she has also acted and advised clients on matters pertaining to trademarks, patents, copyright, industrial designs, and IP commercialization which include licensing and franchising.
With all the commercial knowledge gained from the Master program, she aspires to be a legal practitioner who can advise clients from the business perspective and utilize her legal expertise to help her clients to solve problems. She believes that it is the utmost importance for her to understand the needs of her clients especially for SMEs. Her understanding of such business intricacies allows her to factor such knowledge into making crucial decisions when advising her clients.
Charmaine’s main interest is in the law of Intellectual Property. During her Master studies, she has written a research paper entitled- “Patenting Human Genes in Malaysia: Ethical and Legal Perspective”. With her previous working experience in an IP firm as Legal Advisor, she is passionate in developing strategies for clients to manage, leverage and capitalize on their Intellectual Property portfolios.
